Options to Remove a Coyote - Click for Details
If a coyote causes damage to your home or property, and all non-lethal methods of control have been unsuccessful, you may want to hire a licensed Class-A nuisance wildlife control operator (NWCO) to trap and remove the animal. Coyote removals approved by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) usually involve the use of cage (live) traps or padded foot-hold traps. These animals are humanely euthanized, not relocated.
While it is recommended to hire an NWCO for these situations, another option can be obtaining a permit from the IDNR to remove the coyote yourself. Visit IDNR’s website to Request a Removal Permit.
Coyotes are protected by State statute and can only be removed by these methods in urban areas. It is illegal to trap and remove coyotes without a licensed operator or permit.
