Spring Lake Park Blue Star Memorial Revitalization - Click for Details
Earlier this year, the Village Board approved the Lincolnshire Garden Club’s plan to revitalize their Blue Star Memorial site, with review by the Park Board, at Spring Lake Park. Celebrating 75 years in Illinois and 60 years in Lincolnshire, the National Garden Clubs Inc. Blue Star Memorials honor all U.S. Armed Servicemembers. Using the Garden Club's recommendations, Public Works began removing current vegetation in March. A path connecting the site to Spring Lake will be installed in April ahead of the new plantings in early May, all weather permitting.
The work at this site will beautify the area, increase awareness and accessibility among the public, and ensure the space respectfully honors our nation’s servicemembers. See below for the project design and removal work!
This project builds on a 500 sq. ft. Monarch Butterfly Waystation Garden that was designed, planted, and labeled by the Lincolnshire Garden Club, in partnership with the Village, last year as part of the Mayor’s Monarch Pledge. This year, a new Waystation Garden will also be installed as part of the designs. These new gardens will be a combined area of 3,000 sq. ft. and will benefit pollinators and serve as inspiration for your home gardens.
Work should be substantially completed by the end of May, weather permitting, followed by the installation of a new memorial marker this fall. Updates will be shared on e-news and social media.
