Activities will occur at Public Works and Police throughout the morning! Please see below to plan accordingly!

Public Works

Each Public Works operating division –Streets & Storm Sewer, Flood Response, Fleet, Forestry & Parks, Snow Removal, and Utilities – will have informational booths to educate attendees on how they serve the public. There will also be interactive and engaging activities like touch-a-truck and a giant sandbox that are fun for the whole family! Check out the full schedule below!

What are those lines on the road before it snows? Learn about liquid brine and how it fights icy roads and lessens environmental impact.

Police

How much does a Police vest weigh? Are you installing your child’s safety seat correctly? Have you ever turned on a squad car’s siren? All this and more will be on display at the Police Open House! See below for a schedule of demonstrations and other interactive activities!

10 a.m.
Lake County Sheriff’s K9 Demonstration. Learn how Police K9s are trained to sniff drugs, find missing persons, and protect their fellow officers! These Good Boys will show you how they’re an imperative tool in keeping the public safe.

11:30 a.m.
Waukegan Fire Department Explosive Disposal Demonstration. How do public safety professionals safely dispose of explosive devices? Learn how humans and robots work together to disarm explosives. (No live explosives will be used in this demonstration.)

The Police Department will also have free snacks and drinks, and exhibits including mugshots and fingerprinting, Child ID photos, tours of the station, Police Dispatch, and more!

Red, White, & BOOM! attendees are encouraged to use the Village’s extensive path system to walk, bike, or roll to North Park and Spring Lake Park on July 3 & 4! If you choose to drive, please be aware that parking is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
